Presentation Tips: It's all About Your Voice
It's All About Your Voice
Video transcript:
'Absolutely brilliant. First thing about Michelle, lovely clear voice. It's a very, varied voice and one of the things we'll be looking at as we go through this, is it's actually all about your voice.
It's your voice that keeps people engaged. If you're listening to me all day I'm going word Word, [repeats]. Well, firstly, I'm hypnotising you. But secondly, more significantly, I am forcing you the whole time into a very hard intellectual exercise, which is, what was the most important word in that sentence?
Whereas if you're listening to me, and I'm going Word, Word, Word, Word, Word, Word. I'm doing half the work for you.
I'm emphasising the things that matter and we're straight back to structure.
If you know what the key messages are, you'll find those words will get pushed. So if you're doing your presentation, which is about taking responsibility for things, then you find that the words responsibility, being responsible, acting more responsibly, those words will get a push, and then your students will walk away going, ugh, I got the message.
If your students walk away from your training, thinking, yeah, very interesting. I need to think about that, you haven't done your job, like a salesperson they need to walk away going, I understand where I need to go, who I need to see, what I need to do next.'
